[ ca ]
See Course Catalog for Special Notes.
Additional course fee applies.
Topic for spring 2019: Blindness. This course will consider blindness as a critical category; a metaphor for the way obstruction can illuminate alternate modes of knowledge and experience. What does it mean to see? What is the relation between seeing and knowing? What are the limits or liability of the gaze? Do conceptual frameworks influence visual perceptions? Are visual makers the eyewitnesses to inner self in addition to the larger global self? Blindness implies an impediment to a sensory experience. Can object making reflect what is seen and not seen? How is digital and social media key in individual seen/not seen? These questions will be explored though the act of drawing.
